Not that I disagree or anything @alexandermercy , immjust saying there are certain times where the Cause in itself should be rewarding, not the Prize.

Let's give an instants

You have a sport competition ahead and you are representing your school, after training, alot of effort on the competition day you came first place and you were given a goal medal. Why?

Didn't you just do the needful? Didn't you just represented your school? Didn't you just get first place? Why do you have to get a Gold medal

It's for the effort you put into that competition, the countless training, the back pain,everything you went through, THINK NEW.

When I was much younger, I remember asking my parents to pay me for a task. Maybe I stretched the narrative to far, but, I guess I was just looking for extra motivation.

Ofcourse they refused, as they said they didn't need to pay me to carry out their instructions.

I interpreted it as...you don't need to be rewarded to do what's needful. So I really don't know how this comes to play.
