The darkest part about the cycle is that we keep trying to manage it, but find that when we finally adapt, it somehow gets worse.

Individual wealth in this kind of system enables those to keep the cycle going. They see how good the power is and are not pressed to change it, and why should they? Power is intoxicating. Thanks for the insightful comment
