The easy and lazy explanation is that they do it out of love, and they mean well.</p><p>But I'd like to believe there's nuance, tact and a certain finesse...that maybe sums up as emotional intelligence...that comes with parenting that many African parents dont have.</p><p>As I child, urghhhh. Honestly, you’ve said it all. That lack of emotional intelligence really left scars many of us are still unpacking as adults. It's not just about discipline — it’s the way it was done. No room for conversation, no benefit of the doubt, just instant judgment and punishment.
