They would tie young girls’ feet very tightly with cloth so the feet would not grow normally, and they would force the toes underneath the foot to make it look very small. The process was very painful and could cause serious injuries and make it difficult for them to walk, but people still did it because small feet were seen as beautiful and attractive.</p>
