I agree with you completely that it's a place of its own, which build idealized, hyperreal images to chase after people like peller but I believe this emblematic for everyone, myself included looking to people on the internet that hold things we desire, want and need.
So my distinction using your analysis as the content, is asking how people like Peller amass wealth and fame in the first place?
How our society incentivise it the first place.
