<p>What struck me most is the observation that the horror isn't shocking anymore, it's become familiar, and that familiarity is the actual crisis rather than the individual tragedies themselves. That's such a mature and unsettling insight, most writing about desensitization just states the fact, this actually explains why it's more frightening than the events themselves.</p>
