<p>The messenger's total refusal to answer "is she safe" and just looking at Fashola with pity instead is such an effective way to build dread without giving anything away. It tells us everything we need to know emotionally while keeping the actual plot details locked up tight, great pacing for an end-of-part-one scene.</p>
