These days, most students are not really reading to understand but pass. You know sometimes I look at some graduates and wonder if they really went through school.I agree with you. I don't think it's all about reading to pass or ace the subjects but to comprehend. From what you've read, do you ask questions? Do you try to challenge some facts and go deeper into research or you do some copy and past work?At the end, we are either maimed or made.
