<p>The artists you’re looking for didn’t disappear. They just don’t sit at the center of mainstream attention anymore.</p><p>Hip-hop didn’t stop telling stories. It just stopped being obligated to tell one kind of story.</p><p>So maybe the real question isn’t “where are the real musicians?”</p><p>It’s “why do we only recognize them when they’re trending?”</p>

I get you and you're making sense. The thing is, publicity is necessary for anything to take over. The people you think are trending now, we're once underground and got a push. I can't know the next Nicki or Drake if publicity doesn't occur for them. I can discover by mistake but how many people are like me who randomly research? Another thing: the people you push shape the sound of that era, hence my whole passage.
