<p>To answer your question at the end: yes, I have completely mistaken a trauma response for my actual personality before.</p><p>It is so easy to assume being overly independent or hyper-vigilant is just "who you are," until you slow down and trace it back to a specific betrayal. I love your reminder that we can build wisdom and set boundaries without letting past pain turn us completely bitter.</p>
