<p>I think what struck me most wasn't the birthday, it was the line, "I got so good at not wanting that the not-wanting started to feel like a personality." That's such an honest way to describe self-protection. Sometimes we convince ourselves we don't care, not because it's true, but because caring has become too expensive. Watching the narrator choose hope again, even with the risk of disappointment, felt like the real celebration.</p><p>Happy birthday in arias.......</p>
