<p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p> _FRIENDS OR JUST FAMILIAR STRANGERS?_ </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Sticks and stones may break my bones,</p><p>But words like “we could have been”,</p><p>“we were” ,</p><p>They don’t bruise.</p><p>They carve.</p><p>They rip out the heart</p><p>With a guilty, nostalgic knife.</p><p><br/></p><p>We were told stories of what was,</p><p>But no one warned us</p><p>Of what could have been,</p><p>A journey too fragile</p><p>For the thread that held us,</p><p>Yet it begot the only thing</p><p>That made us feel loved.</p><p><br/></p><p>I knew we were like verses in a sacred poem,</p><p>Inseparable in meaning,</p><p>Broken only</p><p>By the pause of a breath.</p><p><br/></p><p>I believed our days wouldn’t end in melancholy.</p><p>But slowly,</p><p>It faded ,</p><p>In the late replies,</p><p>In the "hi" we exchanged</p><p>Where once a thousand stories bloomed.</p><p><br/></p><p>Did friendship mean nothing?</p><p>Or did time outgrow it?</p><p>Were we ever intentional?</p><p>'Cause distance should never have proven</p><p>That our bond was less.</p><p><br/></p><p>Were we truly friends, or just familiar?</p><p>Did our late-night talks</p><p>Merely echo into the hollows of our hearts?</p><p>Were we ever</p><p>The forever we promised?</p><p><br/></p><p>Why couldn’t we be</p><p>The same souls we were?</p><p>Why is what once was</p><p>The only ending we know?</p>
