A little piece

She looked in the mirror and smiled, her glasses were beautiful.

Another reminder about the bwc meeting was sent, and she realized she was running late, so she hurried out, leaving her glasses safely tucked in her bag.

She reached the venue on time and found a seat, but it wasn’t comfortable. Bright light streamed through the windows, stabbing at her eyes.

She whined in discomfort, then remembered her glasses and quickly put them on, and it felt like she was in another world. Everything was clear, and less bright.

She leaned back in her chair, a small smile spreading across her face.

As the bwc president spoke, a flicker of movement behind the president caught her eye.

Someone was in chains.

She blinked and rubbed her eyes.

There was another person.

And another.

More people.

All bound in chains, their faces twisted in silent terror, in pain.

Heart pounding, and ready to run, she stepped outside.

There were no more people in chains, instead there were apparitions, spirits, and things she couldn’t place.

Heart racing, she ran. She ran confused, stumbling blindly, until she fell hard, and her glasses shattered.

Immediately, the world snapped back to normal, harsh and glaring.

“Yeah… I think I can manage the light,” she whispered, wincing.

She stood, brushed herself off, and returned to the class, the memory of what she had seen lingering like a shadow in her mind.
