A Sting

She walked slowly into the hall, oblivious to their staring eyes. Clutching her bag in fear, she prayed she wouldn’t stumble before reaching her seat. God, her legs were shaking profusely.

Then she spotted the youth fellowship leader. Relief washed over her face, he’ll believe me, he has to, he’s a man of God, she thought. After all, everyone called him papa.

But to her surprise, his voice cut through her fragile hope:

"I’m so disappointed in you. I never knew you were capable of this. How could you allow the devil to use you? He’s someone’s husband! I know you keep male friends, but this… this is extreme!"

Before she could explain that it was nothing but a baseless rumor, he was gone.

The stares grew heavier, piercing her until she could bear it no more.

Two days later, the truth came out, the rumors were false. But some hearts remained unchanged. A distorted image of her had already been registered in their minds, and their perspective never returned to what it once was.

---

Here’s the truth: it is one thing to spread a rumor without verification. It is another to realize how deeply it can scar a person’s self-esteem. Because even when the rumors are cleared, the damage often lingers, people hold on to the picture they chose to believe.

Don’t be the tool that confirms baseless rumors. Be quick to ask questions before assuming. Many have lost themselves under the weight of unverified words.

Be good to everyone. Treat them the way Jesus would. And if it feels too hard, ask God for help.

I remain,

Abbas_Comforted 🕊️
