I stood there trembling terribly but trying so hard not to show it. My heart was beating very fast. I just wanted to love. I wasn't committing any crime.

"Mummy, I am ready." I said, avoiding eye contact.

"You are ready?"

"Yes ma"

"Okay. Call Deborah let me speak with her" My mum said.

My heart skipped. I felt instant palpitations. Kept my bag, excused myself and ran inside to use the toilet. I immediately dialed Deborah's number but it wasn't going through. I dialled again and again and again. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I sent a text on Whatsapp and an SMS. My legs were involuntarily bouncing and I was shaky as I typed. Even tho I tried calming myself down by doing some breathing exercises, it didn't seem to work. Fortunately, she called back. I picked and told her my plan. Told her my mum would request to speak with her and she should cooperate. I didn't need to say much because Deborah is actually a smart girl. I mean I love smart people who didn't need to be told everything piece by piece to grasp an idea.

I came out a bit calm and better than before. Walked up to my mum. I changed my mindset to: before my mum married, she dated and she dated the love of her life and she's just trying to be protective but then I am not a kid. I can handle things myself. With this mindset, I walked up boldly to her and reminded her I was about going.

"Come back here!" She ordered. Her brows bending inwards. Whenever she got mad, sometimes she looks unrecognizable although she's a nice woman. She asked me to call Deborah right in her presence. I dialed Deborah's line and it wasn't going. My nervous system started acting up and I was just saying "not now, not now" silently. On the third dial, she picked. My mum asked if it was true she was back from school. My mum knows Deborah's mum too well. We met them when we went to Canada for vacation. These African mothers when they meet each other outside their country and find out they are from same nationality not just African, for some, they grow bond. Deborah was able to convince my mum to my taste. Of course she was back because there's a probability of my mum confirming.

My plan worked out! It was already 7 minutes past 5 and my mum said I had to be back before 7. I called my baby. He's been calling all these while but I had to block his calls. Called him back and he was expectant on how it went and if I would still be coming. Told him to pick me at Deborah's house. Well he doesn't know Deborah but I would have to spend sometime there in case my mum called.

Deborah looked so huge unlike the last time we met.

"It's been a while, Debby."

I said and we hugged. She was such a sweet soul. She asked me what I was plotting because she knows I don't like visiting people. Told her I was dating this guy named Daniel and all the story within minutes. She couldn't hide her joy. I mean she's a damsel. A 10/10. She's always getting into a relationship and leaving. Got to a point she said she wouldn't want to date any longer but focus on her studies. Not like it was a distraction but she needed a break. She was happy that I got out of my cage and atleast I am interested in somebody and not the normal "hard nut to crack" she used to know. I blushed. I guess since they've traveled more, the mum doesn't cage her children. They are so free. Deborah told her mum she needed to get something from the supermarket with me but she's not promising her we would be back on time. She told her it's been a while without her friend and they needed to catch up and guess what? Her mum was good with it. I just stood there surprised.

Daniel drove to the location I gave him and Deborah and I got in. We dropped her at a supermarket down the road and she waved me bye. She still told me to call her when we were done hanging out so she could come pick me. Before going, she told Daniel to better be a gentle man and we laughed. Daniel kissed me and kept admiring me and I put his hands on the steering wheel and told him to move it!!! He laughed. We got to the park. It was some minutes past 6. It was getting a bit dark already. We decided to eat first before going to have fun. He kept holding my hands as we walked around. People stared at us maybe in admirance or jealousy I don't know. By the time we were done eating, it was damn late. It suddenly started raining. The cool breeze gave some cold sensations. I clung to him and we sat and watched the rain.

Daniel started making some strange moves.
