Become Generous

“Life is not measured by how much you own.” – Luke 12:15

When I was younger, I thought being generous meant waiting until I “hammered.” I told myself: “Emmanuel, one day when money lands, you’ll give like Dangote.”

But life quickly showed me something: if you’re stingy with 5k, you’ll still be stingy with 5 million.

---

1. Be Grateful for What You Have

Generosity grows out of contentment, not out of abundance.

John D. Rockefeller once admitted:

“I have made millions, but they have brought me no happiness.”

One evening, I caught myself complaining about how small my dinner was. Then I remembered someone somewhere didn’t even know where their next meal would come from. Suddenly, that plate of rice became a thanksgiving service. Gratitude makes your heart open, and open hearts give more.

---

2. Don’t Let Possessions Control You

Jesus said it best:

“Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

Author Richard Foster adds:

“Owning things is an obsession in our culture. If we own it, we feel we can control it. But that’s an illusion.”

True story: I once bought a shoe I didn’t need, just because I felt it would boost my mood. Guess what? Mood didn’t change. But my bank account did. 😅

Lesson? Things don’t control your joy — they only control your stress if you let them.

---

3. Regard Money as a Resource

French author Dominique Lapierre once rode in his brand-new Rolls Royce to India. But instead of just writing his book The City of Joy, he found a new purpose — helping the poor. Until his death in 2022, he dedicated his life and wealth to serving others. His business card even carried these words:

“All that is not given is lost.”

Imagine that — defining your entire life by generosity.

---

The TwoCents Takeaway

Generosity isn’t about how fat your wallet is. It’s about how open your heart is.Start with gratitude.

Start with gratitude.

Don’t let possessions own you.

Treat money as a tool, not a trophy.

Because at the end of the day, the things we hold too tightly will slip through our fingers. But the things we give away live forever.

So today, let me leave you with this thought:

Your legacy isn’t in what you keep.

It’s in what you give.

©️Emmanuel Daniji

My TwoCents
