Before you complain, inhale!

Think about it. Right now, as you’re reading this, your body is doing something incredible. You’re breathing. You don’t have to pay for it, you don’t have to remind yourself to do it, and you don’t have to work for it. Oxygen is just there, keeping you alive for free. But when was the last time you actually said, "Wow, thanks for the air!"?

Probably never. Instead, most of us use that same breath to complain. We huff and puff because the WiFi is slow, or we grumble because it’s too hot, too cold, or it rains when we need sun.

It’s a bit funny, isn’t it? We are literally surrounded by a silent miracle every second, but we’re too busy being annoyed by small stuff to notice.

We tend to ignore things that are easy and free. If we had to pay 1 thousand Naira for every breath, we’d probably treat every inhale like a treasure. But since it’s always there, we take it for granted. We focus on what’s "wrong" with our day and forget that the most important thing, staying alive is actually going perfectly right.

Think about someone who is sick or has trouble breathing. To them, a single deep breath is the best gift in the world. They would trade all the valuables and possessions just to feel their lungs fill up easily.

When we realize that, our problems (Like eating something else instead of what we crave or not able to buy a gadget we want) start to look pretty small.

The point isn't that you can never be annoyed. Life happens! But it’s worth taking a second to realize that even on your worst day, you’re still winning because you’re breathing. Next time you feel like complaining, try taking a deep breath first. Remind yourself that you’ve already been given the most important thing you need to survive, and it didn't cost you a dime.

We are essentially walking, talking combustion engines that run on an invisible fuel provided freely by the planet. That is certainly something to be thankful for.
