Breaking the island mentality

I know I can’t be the only one who feels this way. There’s gotta be someone out there who’s in the same boat as I am. It’s not pride — at least, I wouldn’t call it that. It’s more of a deep sense of self-reliance.

I know I can’t do it all by myself, but asking for help? That’s hard. Maybe it’s not pride. Maybe it’s the fear of being let down — again. When you’ve been disappointed too many times, you start convincing yourself it’s safer to do it all alone. After all, you can’t be disappointed if you don’t “appoint” anyone, right?

But deep down, I know this isn’t the way it should be. No man is an island. (Women included — don’t come for me 😅). The truth is, we’re all meant to depend on each other, in some way or another.

That sense of “I don’t need anyone” — yeah, it feels like strength, but if we’re honest, it’s a quiet kind of pride. And that pride builds walls. It keeps us isolated even when we don’t want to be.

So here’s the hard part: we have to fight it. We have to learn to trust again — not just in others, but in the idea that we’re worthy of support. Because we’re not islands. We never were.
