As you rush to save that child, you suddenly notice that there's a bucket of water positioned directly above the spot where the child is trapped. Saving your child means the water will splash all over you and leave you completely soaked.

Then you look at your clothes and remember that you have somewhere very important to be, and those are the only good clothes you have.

But at that moment, what matters more?

The clothes and the important outing, or saving your child?

You won't even need to think twice. You will save that child, even if it means getting completely soaked, because that child is more important than the clothes you're wearing or wherever you need to go.

That's how I see certain things in life.

I've learnt to ask myself: What matters most right now?

One thing I have come to believe is that unfavourable circumstances may leave marks or scars, and they may cause pain, but they don't have the authority to determine the end of my story. As long as God is still leading me and there is still an assignment before me, I refuse to allow difficult circumstances to make me abandon what matters.

So, no matter how the heathen rage, no matter how loudly the storm roars around me, if there's something I can do about a problem, I'll do it. But if I've done everything within my power and there's nothing more I can do at that moment, I refuse to keep carrying it around in my mind.

I'll shut it out and return my attention to what truly needs me.

My purpose.

My assignment.

My work.

My social media platforms.

I'll tell myself:

โMy child is more important.โ

And in this analogy, that โchildโ represents the things I'm responsible forโthe content I need to create, the assignment I'm pursuing, and the purpose I'm trying to nurture.

So if the storm wants to roar, let it roar.

If the water wants to splash on me, let it splash.

If the sky feels like it's about to fall, let it fall.

I'm not going to abandon what truly matters simply because circumstances around me are uncomfortable.

And you know what, Beloved?

So many times I've done this, and nothing happened.

The sky didn't fall.

The problems didn't destroy me.

And somehow, one way or another, the things I couldn't solve eventually got resolved by the One who has always been able to solve them.

That's something I've learnt repeatedly: some things don't require me to keep worrying about them; they require me to trust God with them.

Because when you allow every problem to occupy your mind, it begins to compete with everything else that needs your attention.

And before you know it, you're spending all your mental energy worrying about what you cannot control, while neglecting the very things you actually can control.

So, Beloved, learn to identify what truly matters, give it your attention, and entrust the things beyond your control to God.

Sometimes, protecting your focus is itself a form of discipline.

I rest my pen
