Dear Sickle cell Warrior,

There are battles people can see and then there are the ones that live inside bone and blood...Yours lives there.

It lives in the quiet moments when the world is asleep and your body is awake with pain. In the long nights that stretch like they have no mercy. In the way you have learned to measure time not just by days and months, but by crises survived… by breaths taken through clenched teeth… by mornings you never thought you’d see but somehow did.

People look at you and see a person.

But what they don’t see is the war your body has been fighting since the day you arrived here.

They don’t see the courage it takes to wake up in a body that sometimes feels like it’s working against you and still choose to live inside it anyway.

They don’t see the quiet grief either.

The things this illness has stolen.

The plans interrupted.

The childhoods that had to grow up too quickly.

The way you’ve had to learn the meaning of endurance far earlier than anyone ever should.

And yet…

Here you are.

Still breathing.

Still hoping.

Still daring to dream in a body that sometimes tries to convince you that dreaming is too expensive.

That kind of courage doesn’t make noise.

It lives in the way you smile when your body is tired.

In the way you comfort other people when you are the one carrying pain.

In the way you keep walking through a life that has asked more of you than it has asked of most.

You are not weak for the days you cry.

You are not fragile for the days you feel tired of fighting.

Even the strongest warriors sit down sometimes to catch their breath.

But listen carefully to the truth that lives inside your survival:

You are still here

Through the pain.

Through the hospital rooms.

Through the nights when hope felt thin.

You are still here.

And that is not small.

That is not ordinary.

That is a kind of bravery the world rarely understands; the quiet, relentless courage of someone who wakes up every day in a difficult body and still decides to keep living.

So if today feels heavy…

If your bones ache with the weight of it all…

Let this be your reminder:

Your life is not defined by the pain in your blood.

It is defined by the fire in your spirit that refuses to go out.

And as long as that fire burns even softly, even quietly, your story is still unfolding.

And the world is better for the chapters you are still writing.
