Defining Love

I love you.

These words have always felt foreign to me.

They taste bittersweet in my mouth.

Once so sacred

now so casual,

they have lost their weight.

Anyone can say them,

even without meaning them.

I love you.

But do I really?

How do I know?

Do butterflies really burst

in my belly like in the novels?

I wonder

how does a girl know she loves a boy,

or a boy a girl,

and knows it for sure?

Is it attraction,

is it intellect,

is it beauty alone?

You are the most beautiful one I have seen

on this earth

I say I love you,

but is that all there is?

Attraction vs. love

are they the same?

Can one love

without being drawn to you?

They say love is blind

and maybe it is.

But maybe it’s not.

To me,

love is something one defines for themselves.

Love may be blind to you

but sight to me.

Beautiful to you,

confusing to me.

Love should be unique

defined by each heart,

not by the world.

This poem is my reflection on love , how I love you has become casual, how attraction is often mistaken for love, and how I believe love is personal,
