Desires mistaken for purpose.
Sometimes, we chase things with such fervour<p><br/></p><p>that we forget to ask ourselves why.</p><p><br/></p><p>We mistake desire for purpose,</p><p><br/></p><p>and excitement for direction.</p><p><br/></p><p>Today, I paused and thought</p><p><br/></p><p>perhaps it was what I wanted, not what I needed.</p><p><br/></p><p>Years ago, I told my parents I l wanted a violin.</p><p><br/></p><p>They didn’t see how deeply I meant it.</p><p><br/></p><p>But I whispered it to my mother every single day</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe it was because I’d held one a few times</p><p><br/></p><p>and felt music hum beneath my fingers,</p><p><br/></p><p>or because I admired those who played it</p><p><br/></p><p>during Holy Ghost Services</p><p><br/></p><p>I wanted it so badly I even stopped eating.</p><p><br/></p><p>After months of gentle pestering,</p><p><br/></p><p>my father finally gave in.</p><p><br/></p><p>You should have seen the joy that filled me.</p><p><br/></p><p>But a few months later,</p><p><br/></p><p>the violin sat untouched.</p><p><br/></p><p>Years passed, and while we were packing,</p><p><br/></p><p>I found it buried in the store </p><p><br/></p><p>veiled in dust and quiet regret.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not because I was lazy,</p><p><br/></p><p>but because somewhere along the way,</p><p><br/></p><p>I realized it was never truly mine to pursue.</p><p><br/></p><p>God did not design every hand</p><p><br/></p><p>to master every craft.</p><p><br/></p><p>And that’s how many of us are</p><p><br/></p><p>chasing what glitters in another’s grasp,</p><p><br/></p><p>forgetting to ask if it was ever meant for ours.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not everything that gleams in another’s light</p><p><br/></p><p>Not everything that gleams in another’s light</p><p>was fashiosoned to fit our calling.</p><p><br/></p><p>— Ajay✍🏾</p>
