Evidence don land.”*</p><p><br/></p><p>Laughter. Side eyes. She wanted to disappear into the tap.</p><p><br/></p><p>From behind, Mariam walked up to her quietly. “Are you okay?”</p><p><br/></p><p>Aisha sniffed. “Do I look okay?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“No.” Mariam reached into her bag and handed Aisha a tissue. “But I’m here, if that counts.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Just then, Mrs. Edet, the discipline mistress, stepped out of the staffroom with thunder in her face.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Aisha Idris! Deniem Uche! To the principal’s office. Now!”</p><p><br/></p><p>The entire block went silent.</p><p><br/></p><p>Deniem appeared from the far end, walking toward her. His eyes met hers, calm but serious.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You ready?” he asked.</p><p><br/></p><p>“No,” Aisha said honestly.</p><p><br/></p><p>He smirked. “Me neither.”</p><p><br/></p><p>As they walked side by side to face whatever storm waited, whispers followed.</p><p><br/></p><p>But they didn’t stop walking.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because when the world throws fire… sometimes, you walk through it with someone beside you.</p>
