Today, I walked a short while on the elite street of Lagos and came across a few females. I am female too and somehow, it is easy for us to identify when our gender makes so much effort to create an impression.
So, you cannot afford the trendy weave, outfit styling, all of those things you see your mates do easily, right? What else can't you afford? Self esteem? When people live fake lives, they actually have a mask on. It is an inferiority complex that makes you want to prove your relevance.
This is my generation but it is difficult to unsee the rush to be things at any cost. It almost feels like we got a memo to hate the process. The interesting thing about the fake life gang is that they try so hard to impress co-fake lifers.
The 26 year old guy does not want to boast of high-flying achievements but his gadgets and vehicles so he resorts to being Kamilla online. His 20 year old girl who benefits from his easy wealth wants a phone she can take a mirror selfie with to impress her friends. Her friends are pressured, they want a life that makes them worthy of themselves.
Creating an impression is normal but being under pressure to keep up and fit in is stressful. The "fake it till you make it" wave is quite interesting. We will agree that if it's in the context of presentation, you must brand. It matters because you easily sell your idea when you present yourself to be an authority in the field. I mean, I would opt for someone who has proper presentation and branding.
My thought exactly is, why be a wanna-be, when you can actually be.
I am in a generation where the urge to be things is rampant. Fake life is in the air, wear face mask and stay immune.
At the end of each month, we give out cash prizes to 5 people with the best insights in the past month
as well as coupon points to 15 people who didn't make the top 5, but shared high-quality content.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
