Fool’s Gold: The Search for Calm in the Storm
<p>With you, I’ve tried powerlessly—</p><p>To separate casual interaction from emotional connection.<br/></p><p>But many a time during our hangouts, I get this overwhelming feeling <br/></p><p>That too much has been stirred up within me.<br/></p><p>I find myself unable to sail against the tempest <br/></p><p>Born of these intangible currents, pushing and pulling from multiple directions.<br/></p><p>So I dread another voyage with my dinghy boat into that turbulent sea, <br/></p><p>For I might get marooned in some uncharted land, with no chance of return<br/></p><p>Hmph! And I dare call myself a sailor … What a laugh…<br/></p><p>Amidst the storm, some currents push me to surrender to love <br/></p><p>And some others pull me to flee from it.<br/></p><p>But how do I surrender when my affection is unrequited?<br/></p><p>Though I know from experience<br/></p><p>That being with you draws out depth from me in a way never before seen or felt,<br/></p><p>I simply cannot shake the thought that I could be deluding myself regarding where I stand.<br/></p><p>I believe Intimacy resembles each and every coin in the spoils of a pirate’s plunder—<br/></p><p>It either heals or it wounds; heads or tails.<br/></p><p>It has not a neutral third face. <br/></p><p>And then, as I plot my next course,<br/></p><p>I am interrupted by a haunting tune—a faint snippet of a siren song sung in your voice.<br/></p><p>Oh, I know this pattern quite well…<br/></p><p>Heard it from tall tales used to pass the time<br/></p><p>And I need not encounter the Kraken famed for its lethal ambush in the high seas.<br/></p><p>I know you never asked to hold this magnitude of influence.<br/></p><p>Nevertheless, This pirate is not interested in the gamble any longer<br/></p><p>Seeing as the coin toss is rigged against his favour.<br/></p><p><br/></p><p>P.S. I appreciate all that I’ve garnered through all the times I managed to brave this treacherous sea</p><p>A happy ending would be a befitting crown for a fantastical tale of this sort,<br/></p><p>But alas, yours truly is no titular hero.<br/></p><p><br/></p>
