It was about three months ago during my clinical posting at a local health center.

That day, we had three emergency cases back-to-back. My body was worn out. My mind was racing. Thank God I had eaten, because I donāt think I would have stood through all that on an empty stomach.

One moment is still etched in my mind.

A young woman came in with a severe asthma attack. She was shaking so violently, it looked like her whole body was being controlled by something else.

In my head I thought, āIs this a medical crisis⦠or a spiritual one? Should I be reaching for a nebulizer⦠or casting out a demon?ā

I was new. I was shocked. I was overwhelmed.

And yet ā I didnāt cry.

Hereās the truth: nursing will expose you to moments that test both your skill and your soul.

Some days, your hands will shake.

Other days, your heart will.

But hereās what Iām learning:

1. Asthma attacks are terrifying, but theyāre a real, physical condition. The body constricts, the patient panics, and every breath feels like war.

2. Itās also a spiritual reminder. Life itself is breath ā and God is the giver of every breath (Genesis 2:7).

3. When our strength runs out, His strength takes over (2 Corinthians 12:9).

That day reminded me that my role is more than procedures and vitals. Itās also presence, prayer, and persistence.

So to anyone weary in your calling ā whether nursing, teaching, parenting, or serving:

šš½ Keep showing up.

šš½ Keep learning.

šš½ Keep leaning on God.

Because āto be spiritually minded is life and peaceā (Romans 8:6).
