JUJU - Iduro

(Note: This is not a true account on history but a fictional recollection.)

Around the time of the 1940’s in nigeria, this would be 10 years before the country would gain its independence. The king of oyo around that time was experiencing an incredible dilema; bandits had some how broken into his abode and kidnapped 3 of his wives and 14 of his children, and demanded a hefty ransom. Tho with military intervention all but one child had been brought back safely. This young princess’s name was iduro.

Iduro was the 30th child of the king and was known for her unwavering resolve, determination, sharp wits and even sharper tongue. Tho around the time most female children were being cultivated to be future house wives, she actively tried to push back against those norms, stating she was going to become a scholar and was not going to be married off.

The king knew that of all his children, iduro was an incredible individual and would not want to lose her. The fact that she was still in the band its custody signifies that they know of her value to the king. It was a very stifling situation in which the king had to turn to an out of sorts option.

An organization mostly known by society for their exorcism practices was the kings last resort, but why would he choose an exorcism organization to aid in the rescue of his daughter? Well, the information is only known to the higher ups of the country that this organization is a pivital structure in the Nigerian economy, as they pulled the strings to the foundation of most of the countries success. If you needed something done, they were your best bet.

The representative of the organization was a tall and robust woman who looked like she was from this region, in an outfit the king could only describe has “foreigners attire,” but in full detail it was a black sunhat, a long sleeved blouse, a long well fitted skirt and a hand bag. Accompanying her was a young well built man wearing a suit that foreigners wear as well, with a machete strapped to his back, who looked like he was from the north.

“This is quite a lovely abode you have here, my name is Mrs yeye oro,” the woman said with a devilish smile, putting the king in a state of unease, but he had to push past that.

“I Predict you should already know the circumstances of your visit and we are just here to discuss what the organization wants in return, Mrs yeye oro,” The king states, looking to get his daughter back as soon as possible.

“Straight to business I see, but I promise you they're Conditions you may not appreciate,” Mrs yeye oro responded.

In the border of between Oyo and Ogun state, deep in the forest area, iduro is being held captive in an abandoned warehouse facility, battered and bruised, tied to a pole. The young woman still cusses at her captors who were already contemplating their options.

“what are we going to do? the king hasn’t responded and we are running out of time, we should just sell the girl off and just get money at least,” one of the captors said. “I agree, we can still make some cash from this situation.”

The kidnappers decided they were going to sell iduro off since the king had seemingly not responded. As they went to go grab iduro from the other room, all they were met with was a rope on the ground beside a piece of metal, indicating she had used the metal and cut the rope.

Iduro ran out of the building into the forest, trying to get has far away as she could.

“IDIOTS!!” She remarked as she sped through the forest trying to figure out a path to a main road, only to trip on a branch, falling face first into the ground. Disoriented, she tried to get up but started to hear the voices of the kidnappers slowly catching up. Determined to escape, despite still being disoriented, she still got back up, but not making it far as the kidnappers catch up to her. She gave one of the captors a good clean hit that sent him aback, but the others subdued her.

“you thought you could get away eh,” one of the kidnappers said, holding her down. “Don’t worry we going to get good money off of you.”

Iduro spat at the mans face, making him furious, and right when he’s about to hit her, music starts to be heard around the surrounding area and smoke begins to form.

“Which kind thing be this one?” one of the kidnappers yelped as they are thrown aback by the scenes infront of them.

From the smoke a figure were a mask, in foreigners attire, holding a machete. He spent no second thought and charged at the kidnappers. They tried shotting the individual, but aome of the bullets didn’t make contact, or they made contact but didn’t phase the man at all. He slashed throught the first kidnapper, then the second, then the third, and finally stood infront of the last one who was clearly scared for his life, begging for mercy, only to be decapitated swiftly.

The individual turned to iduro who was already on her feet but was still in shock about what she just witnessed. The man took of his mask, bowed to iduro.

“I am Barde, I have come to your aid by your fathers orders, if you do not believe me—” Barde paused mid sentence, rushing to grab iduro who had seemingly passed out just from hearing barde was sent by her father.

They returned to the palace, reuniting the young princess with her family. Iduro had to rest and recover from her injuries, but the next day was told of the agreement between the organization and the king, and was not seemingly taking it well.

“Kidnappers were going to sell me, I got rescued only to be sold off by my father, what joy,” iduro said sarcastically, grumbling in bed with her 6 other sisters in the room.

“But atleast you'll be escorted by that northerner boy, he dresses like all those white foreigners and he’s very attractive and muscular,” one of the sisters stated, making everyone else nod in approval.

“Not to mention they said they'd give you a higher level education and you get to make connections with people of high places, its what you’ve always wanted.”

Iduro sighed. Tho as much as she’d complain it wouldn't change a thing; the deal is already done and final. But her sisters were right, it is everything she wanted and more. Tho she was still skeptical, but if the king agreed to it then he must trust them.

The previous day……..

“I do not agree to these conditions,” The king replied after hearing the condtions. “Not only do I not trust your organization, i only decided to contact you because of you are my last resort.” Mrs yeye oro putting on a knowing look. “But…”.

The king sighs. “But…. my daughter would be better off within your organizations ranks rather than staying here, so I have no reason to dispute,” the king said with a sense of defeat.

“Wonderful, you’ll get her back by days end and when she recovers she leaves with us,” Mrs yeye oro said with a smile on her face, like shes just won a lottery, which nerved the king even more.

After a few days iduro had finally recovered and was faced with saying goodbye to her family and leaving to pursue something greater. She looked at the palace one more time before barde opened the door to the vehicle for her.

“It is time to go madam,” barde said lightly, helping iduro into the car.

After iduro left the palace, it was made sure that her name was erased from the history books, becoming a ghost, leaving her past life behind her and ready to face the challenges that laid wait ahead.
