Looking for Purpose in a Purposeless World (especially when all things shall pass away)

I’ve tried.

God knows I’ve tried.

To grow,

to heal,

to be light in someone else’s darkness —

but sometimes it feels like the more I try to shine,

the more the emptiness grows.

They say, “Find your purpose.”

But what if purpose keeps slipping through your fingers

like water —

what if everything you build

still ends up fading?

Some nights it feels like life is just a loop:

you rise,

you fall,

you fix yourself,

then break again quietly,

pretending it’s progress.

And maybe it is.

Maybe it’s not.

Maybe this world was never meant to make sense —

a place where everything ends,

where everyone leaves,

where every good thing fades eventually.

And yet we keep reaching anyway,

like hope itself refuses to die.

Maybe that’s the real ache of being human —

to know everything will pass away,

but still want to mean something before it does.

I’ve learned that purpose isn’t always a miracle moment.

Sometimes it’s just the decision to wake up again,

even when you don’t feel like it.

Sometimes it’s showing love to people

who can’t love you back.

Sometimes it’s giving light

and being left in the dark anyway.

And that’s the hardest part —

when you pour out so much

that there’s nothing left in you to refill.

But even then…

there’s a strange kind of peace

in knowing you tried.

You cared.

You gave something real

in a world that forgets real things so easily.

Maybe that’s purpose enough —

not to be seen,

not to be remembered,

but to have felt deeply

in a world that’s gone numb.

Because even when it doesn’t go the way you hoped,

even when the emptiness grows instead of shrinking —

you were still a spark,

even if the night didn’t notice.

Thanks again for your patience, time and attention.

Credits: Confidential 🙂
