Love that transcends time

Since I was sand beneath the rivers of time, before the winds whispered me into form, I have carried the shape of you.

Even when the earth was young and still learning its name, your name was already carved into the drift of my being.

I have loved you longer than the sky has cradled stars, longer than the sea has sung to the moon.

It is an ache that lives not in bones, but in the marrow of memory, in the language of things left unsaid but deeply known.

The weight of you travels with me, like the first rain that remembers the ocean, like light that remembers the sun. I find you everywhere in the trembling air between breaths, in the leaves that lean toward the evening.

And when I close my eyes, it is not darkness that finds me, but the outline of your face, soft as morning, persistent as the tide.

I do not know if this longing has an end, or if love, like rivers, loops back to its source.

But I know that I was yours, even when I was only sand, waiting to be gathered.

-Ehi
