MY BLACK SHADES
<p>I put on my black shades so I don't make eye contact.</p><p>It's not pride, it's fear.</p><p>What if I wave, and no one responds</p><p>What if I try to make friends and they don't want me</p><p>What if.... </p><p><br/></p><p>My friends keep telling me to come out of my shell</p><p>This is not a shell, this is me</p><p>How can I come out of myself? </p><p>This isn't a shell, this is where I dwell</p><p>How do I leave the only home I know </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>How can I peel off the very skin that’s held me together all these years?</p><p>They see a shell, I see an armor built from echoes of rejection and silent tears.</p><p>They call it hiding, I call it surviving.</p><p>You don’t just step out of yourself like changing clothes</p><p>you unfold slowly, painfully, and sometimes not at all.</p><p><br/></p><p>I put on my black shades, not to block people out,</p><p>but to protect the parts of me that still fear the light. </p><p>Maybe one day, I’ll lift them </p><p>not because I’ve stopped fearing,</p><p>but because I’ve finally learned that fear, too, can coexist with courage.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>
