Natural Remedies for Male fertility, does dosage matter? Cyathula prostrata, a case study.

Male fertility fundamentally relies on healthy sperm production, a complex process called spermatogenesis within the testes. This isn't just about making enough sperm; it's also about ensuring they move well, have the right shape, and that crucial genes like DAZL, PRM2, and AKAP4 function correctly. When any of these factors are compromised - whether by genetics, environmental influences, or general testicular health - male reproductive capacity can suffer.

Cyathula prostrata, a plant traditionally used to boost male fertility, shows real promise, but there's a catch. Our study with rats found that extracts from this plant significantly increased sperm count and how well sperm moved, leading to more normal-looking sperm. The important DAZL gene stayed active, which is good.

However, we also learned that more isn't always better. While lower to medium doses of C. prostrata helped or even improved sperm production, higher doses actually reduced the activity of two other key genes (AKAP4 and PRM2) and harmed sperm production in the testes.

So, Cyathula prostrata can definitely help with male fertility by improving sperm quality and supporting important genes. But for it to be effective and safe, getting the dose right is crucial. cabidigitallibrary.org
