Normality in Trauma

‎How can so much sadness be in someone's life and yet shakes it off with laughter?

It was a normal day in November, I was in School, very early at the dawn of a new day, this being the first time the Lecturer will take us, the class was filled, not your usual students attendance, new faces everywhere , despite using more than 12 months in the same department I know just few of them. The Class governor went to call the supposed new Lecturer.

‎Tick!, Tick!, Tick!, the clock groans out of frustration of an endless process of waiting, Dozens of minutes passed, still waiting.

‎

‎A beautiful young lady, one of the few known faces approached me with a big smile and hug; a normal thing in the University. "Emmanuel, don't expect me to call you Catalyst" she joked. " How was the weekend?..." I asked and she replied with just a sad hum. She being someone who is comfortable with me, she explained to me what happened in her week, and from there to her life. I was touched that I couldn't say a word than just to sympathize with a serious look.

‎Her story was just so traumatizing. She joked it off with a smile and said " Everywhere good" one of the reigning slang that time.

‎

‎After series of comforting word from Catalyst, she cheered and said "Thank you, you know just what to say at the right time." and at that moment the unnoticed loud noise was silenced, the Lecturer came in and you know the drill.

‎

‎After the class, I saw the girl, my beautiful friend smiling and laughing with her other friends, the content of their discussion I know not, this got me thinking "How can so much sadness be in someone's life and yet shakes it off with laughter?", she has normalize trauma in every small talk. She is a broken glass, fixing all the broken pieces with disguised happiness, a fire seemingly bright in the surface yet the source of its power echoing an emergency alert screaming for peaceful oil, she longed for peace and ease, I hope she'd find it already.

‎

‎To every broken human out there, putting on smiles as makeup, taking bold steps in a barren lands, this is for you. "Your cracks is a proof light can leak through, the act of carrying mountains like feathers is a proof of your strength.

‎Dear Warrior, keep fighting, keep moving, you are not faking it, your are making, carving and forging something out of it. "You can do it Champ...".

‎

‎Catalyst ✍️

‎
