Ndewonu oo (Greetings) 👋👋

Abu m nwa afo ime Igbo(I was born into the Igbo tribe) anyị nwekwa ọdịnala maka nwatakịrị ọ bụla a mụrụ n’agbụrụ Igbo nke ana akpo Omugwo. (and we have a tradition for every child born into the Igbo tribe and this is called "Omugwo")

Permit me to educate you 😁😁 as I will try as much as possible to carry every tribe along 🤗🤗

Omugwo bu omume ndi Igbo ( an Igbo practice). It is a very beautiful practice where a new mother is cared for by her mother or in some cases her mother in law for some months after childbirth. Ọ bụ oge izu ike, mgbake na ijikọ aka na nwa ọhụrụ ahụ ( it's a time of rest, recovery and mother to child bonding). During this period, the omugwo caregiver literally takes over all the house chores including cooking nutritious meals, providing emotional support and more. She (the caregiver) is just like a guardian angel, guiding the new mother through the ups and downs of motherhood.

The practice of Omugwo has some rituals(not what you are thinking oo 😂) which omugwo is known for. In other words without these rituals there is no Omugwo!!!!!. Watch out for these rituals below👇.

One of which is called Isa Ahu. This involves a hot water massage from the omugwo caregiver to the new mom. It helps to aid physical recovery 🫠

Another ritual is the Ji mmiri oku 😋. This is a very interesting omugwo ritual (said so because I love food 😂). It involves the preparation of a very spicy yam pepper soup which includes Uda, Uziza seeds, pepper of course and other hot ingredients. This hot soup helps to stimulate lactation and cleanse the body of blood clots and other things that needs to be flushed out of the new moms body.

Note of warning: Don't try this when you are pregnant oooo anwakwanayanwa 🧏♀️ because it can lead to a miscarriage and other complications during pregnancy.

The last but not the least is the Uli. This is the camwood paste for skin care and relaxation (optional)

N'isi okwu, omugwo karịri nlekọta ahụ nne ohuru; ọ bụ omume nke ịmụ nwa, ezinụlọ na obodo.(In conclusion, omugwo is more than physical care; it's a celebration of motherhood, family and community)🤗🤗

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
