Maybe I loved too little.

Maybe I loved more than I was supposed to.

But does love really have a limit?

Does it?

I ask myself that now. In the quiet.

What is love?

I thought I knew. I saw it once.

Not in a movie, not in a book.

On the water.

The story of the swans.

That... that was true love.

They met.

And he was all she could think about.

She was his comfort, his pain... his obsession.

His life.

They were... le pain quotidien. The daily bread.

The reason to wake up.

The reason to breathe.

Oh, love...

They danced in the water.

And for a moment, everything else just... disappeared.

They went everywhere together.

Felt each other's pain. A broken feather on one was a wound on the other.

C'est la vie, they say. This is life.

And they made life.

Three beautiful swans.

A family. A perfect, fragile thing.

And you think, this is it. This is forever.

You think the dance never has to end.

Because he was all she could think about.

And she was his comfort, his pain... his obsession.

His life.

They were the daily bread. The reason.

Le seul et unique. The one and only.

Oh, love...

They danced in the water.

And for a moment, nothing else mattered.

Then she passed away.

Just like that.

The music stops.

The water goes still and cold.

And he is left.

A solitary figure in white. A ghost of a memory.

He carries her inside him now.

She left him words, hidden in the reeds, in the faces of their children, in the silence where her song used to be.

He picks them up when he's alone.

He embraces the memory.

Embrasse-moi quand tu voudras..

So what is love?

It's the swan who will never love again.

It's the dance that plays in his head on a loop.

It's the forever that was promised, and in a way, the forever that he keeps.

Alone.

On the water.

Pour toujours. Forever.
