<p>ROUNDTABLE </p><p><br/></p><p>That night, Grandma's step-daughter</p><p> cried, and I wiped her tears</p><p> like disposable tissues;</p><p>words sprawled on the floor</p><p>heart tugging with every syllables.</p><p> This night, cricket gathered their songs &amp;</p><p> earn my hug in her chest</p><p><br/></p><p>The room crowded, not just family,</p><p> but unfamiliar faces. </p><p>She hid behind a veil of White,</p><p>her partner sitting beside her;</p><p>Both eyes composed like inscrutable</p><p>1 sister, 6 uncles, 5 aunts, 3 cousin,</p><p> 6 nieces...and more stared at me when I</p><p> entered.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>I sat between 1 cousin and 10cm gap </p><p>And we talked, really talked </p><p>not like family but like we </p><p>really belongs to the same register.</p><p>we dance the same songs</p><p>shared the same money with backhand </p><p>Laughed the same shy words </p><p>Spoke the same language as we resumed</p><p>we spoke not of tear </p><p>we spoke not of illness</p><p>we spoke like sparrow's gentle flight</p><p>We spoke like brethren spirit </p><p> our dreams, achievement &amp; failure </p><p>without any sprinkling or calculation in</p><p> polygamist's voice</p><p><br/></p><p>My mom, grandma, aunt,</p><p>mostly everyone are here</p><p>bound by obligation not right, having</p><p>been hurt by the same hands that now </p><p>expected affection. But, </p><p>nothing insignificant was said or resolved.</p><p><br/></p><p>As I continued talking with my cousin,</p><p>his sister casually asked me to run some </p><p>errands for her; </p><p> truly because there's a bind </p><p>that past cannot exiled.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>
