Silence Falls In Oakheaven; Prologue

Eliza is running. Her lungs are burning, her legs are screaming, and her breath is a ragged, desperate sound in the absolute darkness of the woods. She stumbles over a root, catching herself on a tree trunk. She does not stop to look back, but the image of Clara’s broken body, the bloody diary, and the agonizing, slow deaths of the others are burned into her mind. She is running from a silence that kills and a fire that consumes. She runs until her body gives out, collapsing in a small, mossy clearing. She looks up. Standing before her is a figure woven from shadow and heat: MARGARITA. Eliza tries to scramble back, but her limbs are frozen.

She is pinned by an invisible force. Margarita is raised slowly. Eliza’s eyes widen in pure, unadulterated terror. She feels a searing, agonizing heat begin to build around her. A low, intense hissing sound, like a furnace igniting, fills the air. Her skin begins to turn a sickening, glossy red. She thrashes silently, her hands clawing at her throat. She tries to scream, but the curse of silence holds her fast. The heat reaches its peak. Her body begins to ignite. The silence is violently shattered by a high-pitched, desperate, blood-curdling scream. AHHHHHHHHHHH! The scream is abruptly cut off. Only the crackle of fire, then... absolute silence……….
