Something Happened in Ikorodu.

You know how they say be careful of Korope(Mini buses) in Lagos?

I never paid attention to it—until something happened.

It was a regular work day. I was getting late.

I woke up at 4:00 and still faced the traffic wahala.

I straightened my shirt that was rumpled in the bus by a woman three times my size who practically sat on my leg. When I got down, the sweat from my head trickled down my white shirt.

My handkerchief was soaked.

I waited at the last bus stop. Unfortunately, all the BRTs were full. The clock ticked, I was reminded of what awaited me at the office.

A few moments later, I looked ahead and saw a Korope in the distance. Gray.

“Garden city!, garden city!, wole ₦500” the conductor echoed.

Garden city?. The only garden city I knew was in Victoria Island. Far from here.

I checked the time. All employees ought to resume by 8:00. It was 7:45.

I stared at the official looking man beside me headed towards the last seat in the middle. I looked at my watch again. He called out to me

”uncle come Na, one space remains”

When I looked up, the vehicle wasn't there.

Just when I thought I imagined it. I heard the familiar voice I heard earlier say:

“Bros, should we enter the Korope? You're already behind schedule”
