The Kind of Woman Worth Celebrating

Happy International Women’s Day! Sorry, Belated women’s day.

This month, we spotlight women who are kicking down doors, breaking glass ceilings, and doing incredible things. Social media is filled with posts that say, “Celebrate women. Look at all she has done…”

But it isn’t just about achievements. Today is about women.

As far as I’m concerned, women are powerful, resilient, and capable of extraordinary things. But if we’re being honest, there’s still some work to do.

I’m not a hater, oh.

Stay with me. We celebrate women, yes. But we also have to acknowledge that sometimes women make it harder for other women to rise. Personally, I struggle with women who cut off opportunities for other women. Why hold the spotlight so tightly that no one else can step into it?

Imagine an athlete in a relay race holding on to the baton and refusing to pass it to another athlete. Two things would happen: she would eventually grow tired, and the other runners would keep training for a chance that never comes.

And unfortunately, some women do exactly that.

Let’s be honest. Envy sometimes shows up more than we want to admit. Think about a woman you once admired deeply, someone you respected, who eventually disappointed you. Someone who had the opportunity to support you but didn’t.

That feeling? Many women know it.

So what does the ideal woman look like?

Yes, we admire the driven woman, the one who chases her goals and secures the bag. But we also admire the woman who keeps her word, lifts others, and genuinely cares about how other women are treated.

Recently, there was an incident involving a false sexual assault story. While there may have been deeper emotional struggles behind that girl’s situation, the gravity of such actions should never be ignored. When something like that happens, it undermines the painful reality that many women have faced.

Rape, harassment, violation. and unwanted advances.

Those are real experiences for many women. So we must be careful not to downplay the stories and struggles of other women. When we know someone has suffered, it should push us to make the road easier for them, even if it requires sacrifice. If you're a serious Christian, you understand the importance of sacrifice. But alongside sacrifice, we must also apply wisdom and discernment (some people are not worth it)

I’ll leave that part to you and the Holy Spirit. So this month, as we celebrate, let us remember the women who are doing the real work — the women whose stories inspire us.

But let us also reflect on how far we still need to grow to truly become that woman.

The Proverbs 31 woman. And let me celebrate my personal favorite — women who are excelling in their careers, building their homes according to the design of Christ, still looking drop-dead gorgeous, and whose men literally worship the ground they walk on. You, ladies, are amazing, and I’m going to be like you someday.
