"The last message"

At exactly 11:47pm, Teni’s phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

She almost ignored it… but something made her open it.

“Don’t sleep tonight.”

She frowned.

Probably a prank.

She dropped her phone and turned to the wall, pulling her blanket closer. It had been a long day. She needed rest.

Her phone buzzed again.

“I’m serious, Teni.”

Her heart skipped.

How does this person know my name?

Now fully awake, she sat up. Her room suddenly felt… different. Too quiet.

She quickly typed back:

“Who is this?”

Three dots appeared instantly.

“Someone who cares about you.”

A chill ran down her spine.

Another message came in.

“Check your door.”

Her hands started shaking.

Slowly… carefully… she turned her head toward the door.

Locked.

Nothing.

She let out a nervous laugh.

“This isn’t funny.” she typed.

Reply came immediately:

“I didn’t say outside.”

Her breath caught.

Before she could move—

Knock.

Not on the door.

From inside her room.

Right behind her.
