The Misunderstood Silence: Days I Never Said

There were days I was lost,

walking through myself

like a place I didn’t recognize.

Days I was lonely,

even in rooms full of voices,

even with laughter around me

that never quite reached my chest.

Days I smiled through pain,

held it behind my teeth

so no one would ask questions

I didn’t know how to answer.

Days I acted strong,

took words that cut too deep,

took disrespect and wore a smile

not because it didn’t hurt,

but because I didn’t know

where to put the hurt.

Days I felt it was all over,

like everything inside me

was quietly giving up

without making a sound.

Days I felt death was near

not in a way I could explain,

just a closeness,

a heaviness

that made breathing feel borrowed.

And still

they saw my silence

and called it nothing.

They never knew

it was full of these days,

stacked on each other,

unspoken,

unseen.

They never knew

my quiet was survival,

my stillness was strength,

my smile was resistance.

So I stayed silent

misunderstood,

but holding on.

Because even in those days,

even in the weight of it all,

there was something in me

that refused to disappear.

Something that kept whispering

stay.
