The Most Un-Christmas-y Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas 😌🎶, and this year Nigeria said "for here"? I really have never seen a year like this before! Let's forget how rude the harmattan has been to ignore our cries for now, what's up with the rain? Defying nature's plans, falling in the month of December and still has the audacity to leave this heat be?!

The traffic in Lagos choke! Everybody wants to obleeee in Lagos for some reason, cramping this already overpopulated city. Outings are less fun now because half the time you're out there fighting traffic, but the revenue they bring says "No Touching Them".

A Holy Night it might be, but nothing is Silent Here! Filling Stations are indeed filled during the day, while the Generators sing aggressive lullabies through the night. Families and friends keep trooping in, and you know sleeping late is inevitable. Who remembers when aunties were sweet and brought home gifts? Now, all aunty Chidinma cares about is "Esther, when will you marry?" "This year or next year o", just leave me alone.

And to whoever said nobody works on Christmas day, "Oh really?, cos we lastborns can't relate." The food was always my favourite thing about Christmas, but that was when all I had to do was eat. Fortunately, I'm old enough to be in charge now. Yup, that's why I've been smelling of different spices since Christmas Eve and very little has met my stomach. I'm getting filled with aromas now, but all will be well.. if ONLY that was all.

That hefty disarranged heap of unwashed plates nearly finished what I never started. I'm staring at scattered leftovers from food and drinks everywhere, and mehnnn... Bla-bla-black sheep!😭🤲🏼

But who cares? I mean, that's not what the day is about, is it? Many are like me, getting torn between the extras and forgetting the main reason. Today is about the birth of a Promise, a real Person and God made man - Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. So, next time you want to hate how your Christmas went, remember whose big day it is and don't forget to celebrate!!!
