<p>*THE OLD MAN ON THE OTHER SIDE*</p><p>__</p><p></p><p>I see an old man on the other side of the room.</p><p>He's got a very bright smile on his face,</p><p>Overjoyed and at peace,</p><p>At a table surrounded by everyone he loves.</p><p>He sits in a rocking chair that never creaks.</p><p>No form of pain in his body or heart.</p><p></p><p>Freedom flows from him,</p><p>A kind of freedom that feels unearthly.</p><p>His hands rest easily, unshaken by time.</p><p>At last, he belongs</p><p>After years of wandering.</p><p></p><p>Everything on that side of the room rests as it should:</p><p>No complications, no trouble, no burdens—</p><p>Just peace.</p><p>Peace like morning light slipping through thin curtains.</p><p></p><p>That place fills my heart with longing.</p><p>I yearn to be in this perfect world,</p><p>Free of chaos.</p><p>I want to sit at the shore of this lake that doesn't remember the storm,</p><p>To be free of this place that fills my soul with pain.</p><p></p><p>I reach out, but my hands can't get past this side of the room </p><p>I notice that I have only been looking into a mirror,</p><p>And I realize that I am the old man on the other side.</p><p>And that side of the room, untouched by sorrow,</p><p>Is a place I go eventually,</p><p>But not for a very long time.</p><p></p><p>For now, I remain on this side of the room,</p><p>Holding hope for the calm that awaits me,</p><p>For the life that awaits me beyond this room.</p>
