The Road To Umuadike: Papa Ugo sees What Others Ignore

Chapter 7

Papa Ugo Sees What Others Ignore

Weeks passed after the first conflict. The village settled into its new rhythm—roads being cleared, traders arriving regularly, and Nnamdi’s school slowly filling with children. Yet beneath the surface, a tension lingered, one that most villagers refused to name.

Papa Ugo, as usual, sat under the udala tree, half-drunk, half-watchful. He was often dismissed as foolish, his words laughed off as nonsense. But that morning, as he chewed a stick thoughtfully, he spoke aloud, catching a few children who had wandered too close.

“Mark my words,” he said, waving his stick. “The road brings wheels, but not all wheels bring good fortune. Some wheels crush more than they carry.”

The children laughed, thinking it a joke.

Later, in the school, Nnamdi noticed a small but growing problem. Some traders, noticing the young children running errands for coins, began exploiting them. Small debts, stolen yams, and misdelivered messages created whispers among parents.

At the market, Mama Ifeoma reported that one trader had tricked a young boy into exchanging yams for fake beads.

The elders, already wary of change, began murmuring.

Finally, one afternoon, as Chijioke argued with a newcomer about payment for deliveries, Papa Ugo appeared quietly.

“You see?” he said, pointing to the boy who had been cheated. “I told you, not all wheels carry good. But you laughed when I spoke.”

Chijioke’s face flushed with realization. He had dismissed Papa Ugo’s warnings, thinking them drunken rants.

Even Elder Ikenna nodded slowly. “The fool speaks what the wise often overlook,” he said quietly.

From that day, Papa Ugo gained a peculiar respect. Not for intelligence, but for noticing what others ignored. His words were still peppered with laughter, but now people listened a little closer.

The village began to understand a simple truth: change carried both opportunity and risk, and even a fool might see what the clever cannot.

By evening, the children ran home, the elders discussed ways to protect their young, and Chijioke silently vowed to be more careful.

Papa Ugo, sipping palm wine, smiled knowingly. “Ah,” he murmured, “the road brings gold and dust. Let the village choose which it will keep.”

Sorry for the Late update

Was sick plus My App was having issues

Most importantly

Feast your eyes ♥️🔥

Christian Divine miracle
