<p>There is a kind of pain that does not shout. It does not protest in the streets. It does not trend on social media. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">It sits quietly in the hearts of millions. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">That is the pain of people who have been failed too many times, yet still wake up every election year with hope stitched into broken expectations. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Nigeria is not just a country in crisis. Nigeria is a country in denial. </span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">There is something dangerous about the Nigerian voter. It is not ignorance. It is not even poverty. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">It is forgetfulness. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Every election cycle, we act like we have no memory. We argue, we fight, we divide ourselves by tribe, religion, and region. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Then we repeat the same mistakes again and again. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">And after everything, we ask the same tired question: “Why is nothing changing?” </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">We talk about bad leaders as though they fell from the sky. We speak of corruption like it is a foreign disease. </span></p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/Screenshot_20260407-081932.jpg"/><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"></span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"><br/></span></p><p><strong>The truth is harder to accept</strong></p><p>We complain about the system, yet every election cycle, we return to the same habits that built it. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">We have mastered the art of outrage, but abandoned the discipline of responsibility. </span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Nigeria does not lack intelligence. Look around; this country is filled with brilliant, creative, outspoken people. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">But when it comes to politics, we suddenly forget how to think. I </span> have watched young people, full of dreams and fire, reduce politics to a game of noise. </p><p>Not ideas. </p><p>Not policies. </p><p>Not vision. </p><p>But insults, blind loyalty, and stomach-driven allegiance. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">We no longer ask: “What can you do?” </span></p><p>We now ask: “What can you give me?” <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"> A</span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">nd just like that, the future is traded for a plate of rice, a few naira notes, or the illusion of belonging. </span></p><p>Slowly, something dangerous has happened. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">The abnormal has become normal. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">We defend leaders who should be questioned. We celebrate gestures instead of governance. We accept suffering and call it “patience.” </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Politics, once meant to be service, has become a game of survival and control. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">A theater of deception, where promises are rehearsed and forgotten immediately after applause. </span></p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/file_00000000970c720aa5fbadfd10464e67.png"/><strong style="background-color: transparent;"> </strong></p><p><strong style="background-color: transparent;"><br/></strong></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">And </span><strong style="background-color: transparent;">then comes election season. </strong></p><p>Suddenly, everyone remembers the people. Roads are “commissioned.” Smiles are manufactured. Voices become humble. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">But history has taught us something painful: </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Temporary kindness is not leadership. Seasonal generosity is not vision. </span></p><p><br/></p><p>Recently, I found myself in a discussion that left me thinking deeply. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">A simple and related question was asked: Are nationalist leaders true heroes or just politicians protecting their own interests? </span></p><p>My answers were honest. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Yes, some were genuine. They sacrificed, they believed, they fought for something bigger than themselves. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">But others? They learned how to use “the people” as a strategy. They turned nationalism into a tool to gain power, silence opposition, and stay relevant. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">And suddenly, it became clear: </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">This is not just about the past. This is about now. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Because even today, we are still trying to figure out: Who truly serves and who only pretends to? </span></p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/file_00000000bc78720a9c9d82886b005768.png"/></p><p>Let’s be honest with ourselves. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">The real tragedy of Nigeria is not just bad leadership. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">It is conditioned acceptance. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">A culture where: </span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Accountability is optional, </span></p><p>Competence is secondary, </p><p>Loyalty is valued more than performance. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"> </span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"><br/></span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">A culture where even the young, who should demand better, are already learning to play the same old games. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">The question is no longer: “Who will win?” </span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">The real question is: “Will we finally learn?” </span></p><p>Because until we do, 2027 will look like 2023, and 2023 looked like 2019. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">And the cycle will continue generation after generation. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">This is not just about politics, it's </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">about the dignity of people. The dreams of a child who deserves a better system. The graduate who should not beg to survive. The citizen who deserves more than survival. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"> </span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"><br/></span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">A nation does not collapse in a day. It erodes slowly. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Through compromise. Through silence. Through the small decisions we think do not matter.</span></p><p><br/></p><p><strong>The truth many people are afraid to say</strong></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">The future of Nigeria will not be destroyed by politicians alone. It will be destroyed by citizens who refuse to think, question, and act differently. </span>This is not a political statement. I am not a politician. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">I am simply a writer watching, feeling, and refusing to stay silent. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"> </span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"><br/></span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"><strong>This is not a call for anger. </strong></span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">This</span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"> is a call for awakening. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">A call to rise above propaganda. Above tribe. Above temporary benefits. </span></p><p>A call to choose: <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Truth over tribe, c</span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">ompetence over connection, v</span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">ision over noise. </span></p><p>Because one day, history will ask us: “When your future was being negotiated, where were you?” <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">And on that day, silence will not be an answer. </span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">So before the next election comes, before the noise begins again, </span></p><p>Pause. </p><p>Think. </p><p>Remember. <span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"> </span></p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/file_00000000cdec7243809383eda8cf4d7a.png"/><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"></span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Because our greatest power is not just our vote. It is our memory. 2027 is coming. But this message is not for 2027 alone. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">It is for every Nigerian who still believes this country can be more, who still believes we can be better, who still believes the story is not over. </span></p><p>If we must rebuild Nigeria, then we must first rebuild our conscience, b<span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">ecause the day we choose to remember, to question, and to act differently, </span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;"><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/file_0000000035e472438b18e62734454131.png"/></span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Nigeria’s future is not in the hands of politicians alone, it is in yours. </span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Ask yourself: A</span><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">re you choosing leaders or choosing comfort in the familiar?</span></p><p><span data-tbw-flag="true" style="background-color: transparent;">Are you voting for the future or recycling the past?
