The Weight Of The Pen

‎I put my pen down for a time,

‎ Hoping for a quieter world.

‎I had written a simple warning,

‎And watched the argument unfurl.

‎

‎I wrote about anger turning inward,

‎How fighting hate with hate is wrong. That calling all men the enemy,

‎Means the real message is gone.

‎

‎They told me I was a traitor,

‎ That I didn't understand the fight.

‎ So I stayed quiet in the noise,

‎And hid myself from sight.

‎

‎But then I saw it, styled and pretty,

‎ “Misandry" as a cool new trend.

‎Not a fight for what is equal,

‎ Just a different way to offend.

‎

‎This toxic song on a repeating track,

‎This bitter rhythm we all know.

‎ It’s time to finally break the cycle,

‎It’s time to let the old tune go.

‎

‎So I’m picking my pen up again.

‎This isn’t strength, it’s just spite.

‎The goal was never “women win,”

‎ It was for everyone to see the light.

‎

‎To say that being cruel isn't power,

‎ And that justice has no gender.

‎We’re supposed to be building a better table,

‎Not just waiting for a turn to be the offender.
