Three (3) reasons why AI is losing to writers in 2025

This article explains how Google's new policy affects AI-written content and flagging generic words.

AI will take the jobs of many creatives before 2050, which has been a concern for many writers since the AI boom in 2022. Numerous writers have penned articles expressing that AI may or will take jobs from creatives in the coming years. Writers have become familiar with AI tools like Grammarly, QuillBot, and CopyAI. The list continues to grow as new AI technologies are developed daily, increasing their intelligence. These tools are less expensive and save time, but they raise questions about organic writing and originality.

Google has supported writers in 2025 by enforcing its 2022 policies on AI-generated content. Our guidance regarding automatically generated content has been consistent for years. Using automation—including AI—to create content primarily to manipulate search rankings violates our spam policies.

This has compelled clients to reject certain projects from writers due to the use of specific words known as generic words. Some writers who rely on AI to produce content often end up with writing that sounds robotic and generic, resulting in lost clients and diminishing writers' credibility.

Recently, Google has flagged words like "elevate," "crucial," and "explore," among many others that have become repetitive across numerous articles, leading Google's algorithm to identify them as generic words used by AI since they all rely on similar computational processes.

This contributes to why clients silently reject content without explanation; writers have no means of knowing what errors to correct. An increasing number of clients are now seeking organic writers who can help them achieve high rankings on Google and drive traffic to their content.

A client shared this insight with me after I submitted a project, advising me to maintain an open mind and write more organically. This approach can help writers become accustomed to writing and editing in a natural style. Surprisingly, Google is flagging even common phrases; expressions like "Let's dive into" and “And the best part?” are now under scrutiny by Google.

Writers, as noted earlier in this article, should strive to write as organically as possible. While AI may be the future, writers represent the present, and writing within that context allows creatives to maintain their relevance. AI can serve as a guide rather than a replacement for creatives. It can help generate guidelines, expand ideas, and facilitate brainstorming, but it should not undermine our creative abilities. Initially, I found it challenging to read the works of other writers, but over time, and would I rather use AI, now researching has become a valuable tool for my writing and enriching my understanding of various strategies.

Another way to rank higher on Google is to write long-form articles and user intent. Over the years, Google has favored long-form articles that include thorough research and detailed information. Writers should not rely solely on AI and assume that a simple edit will secure a high ranking. Writing in your unique voice and style distinguishes organic writing from AI-generated content.

As a young writer, I struggled with the belief that I couldn't write well enough to rank on Google or to match the work of great writers before me because I hadn't yet discovered my unique voice. Now, I have collaborated with many companies, all of which have provided positive feedback on my projects across various fields.

Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.

Posting more helps — but only a little.
Extra posts give a small bonus that grows slowly, so quality always matters more than quantity.
In simple terms:
A great post beats many ignored posts
Consistently engaging posts beat one lucky hit
Spamming low-engagement posts won't help
Tips, comments, and upvotes from others matter most
This ranking is designed to reward
Thoughtful, high-quality posts
Real engagement from the community
Consistency over time — without punishing you for posting again
The Top Monthly Contributors leaderboard reflects what truly resonates, not just who posts the most.
