To Choose Just One
<p>Some pains stay. They never leave.</p><p>Some wounds breathe. They never grieve.</p><p><br/></p><p>But to choose just one would be cruel.</p><p><br/></p><p>My body ate itself alive,</p><p>every breath a battle to survive.</p><p>They forced twenty-two needles while I shook and cried,</p><p>I broke apart but never died.</p><p><br/></p><p>But to choose just one would be cruel.</p><p><br/></p><p>Metal and glass taught my bones how to break,</p><p>the road still remembers the weight of my ache.</p><p>They pushed till I shattered, then pushed me for more,</p><p>I learned how to stand, but forgot what for.</p><p><br/></p><p>But to choose just one would be cruel.</p><p><br/></p><p>A coffin too small. Thirteen years.</p><p>My cousin, my baby, reduced to tears.</p><p>She should be bickering with her mother, not dressed in white, </p><p>not six feet under, not robbed of light.</p><p><br/></p><p>But to choose just one would be cruel.</p><p><br/></p><p>A rope around her neck after she promised me a prettier sky.</p><p>Then left it empty. Left me asking why.</p><p>She belongs here breathing, making my days bright,</p><p>not gone forever, not swallowed by night.</p><p><br/></p><p>But to choose just one would be cruel.</p><p><br/></p><p>I lost what made me me that day.</p><p>The reason I woke. The reason I stayed.</p><p>Gone without a sound, without a trace.</p><p>I keep breathing in an empty space.</p><p><br/></p><p>But to choose just one would be cruel.</p><p><br/></p><p>If I choose just one, the rest would claw their way out of my chest.</p><p>They’d crawl up my throat. They’d poison what’s left.</p><p>They’d haunt my every breath. They’d never let me rest.</p><p>They’d tear through what I’ve built and leave me in a wreck.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because to choose just one would be cruel.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>
