What You Made of Me

Maybe I was never meant to be choosen, only noticed.

A glitch in the landscape that caught your eye.

I stood there,

a body learning how to obey without instruction,

Until my lungs forgot their purpose

and breath became yours.

Sights became yours.

You found me buried beneath years of rot and called it potential.

You dusted me off like something abandoned that still had use,

and my ruin mistook your curiosity for warmth.

I opened.

God, I opened.

You built me slowly.

Not out of love, but the way hands pry apart

a broken clock just to see if the gears still turn.

You adjusted my fractures.

You measured my reactions.

You watched me bend and called it growth.

And I starving, obedient

became whatever shape kept you interested.

You were gentel the way fire is gentel at first.

Soft light. Low heat.

Then deeper. Then permanent.

I began to leak, piece by piece,

disappearing in ways no one could see.

I no longer recognised the boy I had been,

he was just scrap metal you used

to reinforce the frame.

And you,

You never loved me.

You studied me.

I was never a person, I was something unfinished.

Something to fix.

Something to shape until it resembled whatever you needed that day.

And when I no longer changed ,

When I stopped breaking the way you liked,

You let me sit there,

Compelete,

and useless.

So no, I was not loved.

I was construcated.

And when the work was done,

You walked away from site,

leaving me behind like a project

You no longer needed to finish.
