Awkward in Between

We’re not kids, not grown, just stuck in the scene,

Half in the past, half chasing a dream.

Laugh too loud, then hide in a glare,

Hearts on our sleeves, tangled in hair.

They say “be responsible, handle your way,”

But push us aside when decisions hold sway.

We crave the new, but cling to the old,

Tears in our notebooks, stories untold.

Our voices flip-flop, our courage wears thin,

We fight for the future, let the past sink in.

Crushes and failures, they mix in a stew,

A whirlwind of “what” with a dash of “who.”

We scrape knees on sidewalks, on pride, on the night,

Learning to stumble, learning to fight.

Every mistake is a badge, every grin is a clue,

The awkward is ours, and the awkward is true.

We dance in the chaos, we sing with a sigh,

We’re teenagers floating between earth and sky.

Not yet the adults, but more than the youth,

Lost in the middle, yet chasing the truth.
