Biased

Hey, writer's block, I think you're biased.

You only show up when I'm bleeding,

when my mind turns into a storm I can't outrun,

when my chest won't stop leaking.

You abandon me on my good days.

Let me drown in my bad ones.

In the moment I needed a wall between me and my own voice,

you were gone nowhere, absent.

We had a beef, me and you.

Months of war.

Each of us hunting the other's defeat.

And after all that fighting

you leave me now?

Now, when I have nothing left but pain willing to pour?

Now, when the words don't need forcing?

Now, when I counted ten pages and didn't feel a thing?

You block my grateful days.

Sit on my chest when I want to write about light.

Gag me when I try to say thank you to the sky.

But the second everything turns dark

you vanish.

Like you were never the problem.

Like I was.

So I made a choice.

I won't let my pen only know my wounds.

I'm coming for my good days too.

I'm writing myself back into joy

whether you show up or not.
